WHO WILL MEET US AT THE AIRPORT AND HOW WILL WE RECOGNISE HIM?

A guide wearing Legadema Safari identification with a signboard with your name on it will be at the port of entry to meet you. All safaris commence at Johannesburg International Airport, except if otherwise discussed

HOW FAR IS CAMP FROM THE AIRPORT?

You have to travel to Johannesburg airport and take a flight from there to Tete airport in Mozambique. I recommend here a sleep over in a hotel where after we travel 7 hours by vehicle right up to the main camp in the concession. It is a very interesting road to travel passing various small towns inhabited by only black people and also a few native villages as we enter the concession area.

DO WE NEED HOTEL RESERVATIONS BEFORE AND AFTER THE TRIP AND AT WHAT COST?

Yes. We will book for you accommodation in a hotel in Tete town for the day of your arrival. We will then travel to the concession aria  the next morning. On your way back you don’t sleep over in Tete. The cost of the hotel and breakfast is about 35 dollars per person.

WHAT WILL THE TEMPERATURES AND WEATHER BE?

WHAT ABOUT GUN PERMITS AND IMPORTS?

This is a rather lengthy affair at this point in time. Prepare yourself for anything between 1 and 2  hours to clear your guns with the Police (at the port of entry).  Automatic weapons will not be allowed. Make sure to carry your import permit with you (all the times). You are advised to bring approximately 60 rounds of ammunition per rifle. Also remember to bring your proof of ownership of your weapons along.  Further you are going to need a letter of invitation from your outfitter. All needed documents can be found on our Documents page. We will arrange your rifle import permit for you in advance and hand the original it to you at Johannesburg airport. Your professional hunter will meet you and assist you with the rifle import procedures at Tete airport. The process clearing your rifles and ammunitions and getting a visa at Tete airport last about 30 minutes to one hour. The cost of this process is about 120 dollars for a temporary rifle license and  30 dollars per rifle in import duties at Tete airport.

DO WE NEED ANY MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS OR INJECTIONS?

Mozambique  is very safe and you do not need any major medical shots. Malaria precautions must be taken its this is a  malaria area. Cholera & Yellow fever is only needed in Central Africa. In Mozambique it is advisable to have international medical alert 24 hour assistance. Legadema have satellite phones for communication and also cellphone signal about 30 minutes drive from the main camp. Although the closest hospital is about 3 hours drive away the services is very limited. Therefor we will, in case of a emergency, make use of air charter to proper medical services as quick as possible.

CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?

Yes we supply bottled water

ON SAFETY, HOW SAFE IS MOZAMBIQUE?

Mozambique is very safe. The people in Mozambique have a happy culture and are friendly and helpful. Your professional hunter will guide you everywhere and make sure that you are safe at all times.

WHAT COULD MY WIFE DO IN CAMP?

This camp is very rustic with good basic facilities including en suite running toilet, shower and washbasin. Our staff do washing of your clothes. here are fridges and deep fridge working on gas and solar. Here is also a swimming pool to cool down.  Your female companion can either join us on your hunt as observer or stay at the camp relaxing or can be taken fishing with one of our professional hunters. She can also be taken on game watching day tours or waterhole watching  and also to visit the local villages and school.

HOW MANY DAYS DO WE NEED?

An African safari should never be to short. Research has shown that the average safari is 9 days, we therefore recommend 9 days or longer. The USA is at least a 2-day trip from camp. You need 2 to 3 days to get into African rhythm. If you stay 7 days you are on your way back before you start enjoying it. Consider more days, we have a lot of species to hunt and hunting some species like elephant, lion and leopard can take quite a few days .

COULD WE EAT WHAT WE SHOOT?

Definitely yes. We send out a client info list approximately 2 months before your safari. That is your opportunity to tell us what you eat and drink, special preferences and more importantly what you would like to hunt.

HOW MANY SPECIES COULD I HUNT?

You can hunt any of the species on our quota list which we will provide  to you on date of your  firs communication with us. We need to know when you will do the hunt as to confirm which species we have at that moment  available hunt. We can also combine a Mozambique and South African hunt for you if there are specific species that you want to hunt on this trio and if some of the species are available in South Africa and not in Mozambique.

HOW WOULD WE HUNT AND WHAT COULD I EXPECT TO GET?

Hunting in Mozambique is done on foot. We travel by vehicle to the site where we want to hunt the crocodile or hippo and then  we stalk/bait the animal and hunt it. We also sometimes, if necessary, make use of local boats to locate the desired animals before hand. Leopard and lion we usually bait and hunt from self-made blinds. We sometimes track and hunt lions on foot. For other species like buffalo we drive around until we find fresh tracks and then stalk them. Sometimes we will start early by popular waterholes finding tracks and then start stalking. For the hunt of buffalo and antelope we recommend to our clients to be fairly fit and to be able to walk about 5 to 10 km in a day for this hunt. If we have enough hunting time we can also ambush buffalo and antelope close to watering holes(still be ethically far enough away from these watering holes).

WHO DO YOU SUGGEST TO DO MY TAXIDERMY WORK?

Your trophies will be skinned, salted and treated and transported to a local taxidermy in Mozambique. They will then contact your preferred taxidermy in your country and will dip, pack and send it to your taxidermy.

IS THERE ANY GOOD SHOPPING?

No. This is in real wild Africa and the only shopping you will be able to do is at the Johannesburg airport. If you are interested in Shopping I suggest you book an extra day or two for shopping in South Africa. We will gladly take you around to places for shopping or places of interest that you want to visit.

WHAT CURRENCY DO WE USE?

In South Africa we use the Rand. In Mozambique we use the Metical. It is easy at Johannesburg airport to exchange Dollars or Euros for Rands. In Mozambique we suggest that you use dollars. Any payment you need to make in Mozambique can be done to us in dollars and if need be we will exchange the dollars for Metical in town or with street vendors.

WHAT DO WE TIP OUR HUNTING GUIDES, TRACKER, SKINNER

AS WELL AS LODGE/CAMP STAFF?

The Staff work very hard to make your trip enjoyable behind the scenes. In the USA the norm is 10% to 15% of the total account. Budget at least $20 per day for the TRACKER,  $100 per day for your Professional hunter, $20 per day to be divided between the two LODGE/CAMP staff members. Above is a mere suggestion based on past experience. Tipping is a very personal matter and we do respect it as such!
